Marcus Braddock previews the game

With 7 games left in our season and after a couple of good results on the road, Shrewsbury Town face Oldham Athletic in one of the most important games of the season so far. Oldham have had an interesting season, in League 1 they have been mainly in the bottom half but in the F.A. Cup the have done well, beating Premiership Liverpool and taking their Merseyside rivals Everton to a replay at Goodison. Despite the cup run, manager Paul Dickov paid the price for a poor league record and was replaced this month by Lee Johnson, son of Yeovil manager Gary Johnson. Johnson has an instant impact with Oldham winning his first game in charge 3-0 against fellow struggler's Hartlepool.

Head to Head

In the league, Shrewsbury and Oldham have met 43 times with both teams winning 16 times and drawing 11.  Oldham's best result against us was a 4-1 home win in 1966 and our best result was a 4-1 away win in 1971.

Squad News

Jermaine Grandison, Cameron Gayle and Rob Edwards will all be missing because of injuries. Mark Wright is close to a return but won't make it this weekend.

Although every game is important, this one has slightly more at stake than others. Oldham lifted themselves out of the relegation zone on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win at home to Hartlepool, and will be looking for another 3 points this weekend. We also need 3 points and if we can get them we put a little more distance between ourselves and Oldham. The Oldham stats show that we need to keep Jose Baxter and Lee Croft Quiet or we may come a cropper. We've not done so well at home in recent weeks but I'm backing us to nick the points with a 2-1 win for Shrewsbury Town!

ShrewsWeb spoke to Graham Turner to get his thought's ahead of the game

On the pitch and the weather...

Obviously there is a covering of snow on it but that's thawing rapidly, we'll get covers on and we hope that's sufficient protection. If there is a heavy downpour of snow then obviously we've got serious problems. We'll do everything possible to get the game on because on the back of 4 points in our last 2 away games the players have got a bit of fresh confidence about them and would look forward to the game.

On Oldham...

There are a number of circumstances that have changed, when you look at Oldham, the team have some decent players in there, some experienced players. They have had a terrific cup run and shown in televised games how good they are against Everton and Liverpool. So on the back of that, we know that they can play. They've just installed a new manager which sometimes gives the dressing room a boost and players have something fresh to prove to a new man, so that doesn't help our cause. But on the other hand, they are under pressure, they've played this midweek whilst we have had a rest although they have the confidence of a win in that game.

On us...

We've had a good weeks training, I'm pleased with how it's gone. Sometimes you look at what we've done in the week and you get confidence from how the players have looked , how they've gone about it and some of it is from the victory at MK Dons and the draw at Crewe. Two great results, we would have settled for that beforehand, 4 points from those two games. So good results and I can see a bit of confidence back in the work they have done this week.
