Dom Smith’s Southport side continued their fantastic start to the season with a couple more victories last week. The Lancashire Coast outfit have conceded just one goal in three league matches so far this season, with Smith playing every minute as part of Southport’s back three.

That single goal came in their 2-1 victory over Bradford Park Avenue on Tuesday night. Park Avenue took the lead through Adam Boyes, but Southport equalised before half-time through Andy White. The game appeared to be heading for a draw until the influential Gary Roberts struck in the 89th minute to give the Sandgrounders victory.

They followed that up with a hard-earned 1-0 win away at Leamington on Saturday. Again they were forced to leave it late, but former Town youngster Ethan Jones, who had come on a substitute, pounced on a Leamington mistake to give his side the victory.

Shaun Rowley’s Tamworth side also had success over Leamington this week as they beat the Warwickshire side 2-1 on Tuesday. The Lambs took the lead inside the opening 5 minutes when Andy Burns’ shot was deflected past the Leamington ‘keeper. Leamington struck back 20 minutes later as Rowley had no chance of keeping out a Junior English’s volley, but Aman Verma’s goal 15 minutes before the end was enough to give Tamworth their first win of the season.

Sadly, they couldn’t follow that up on Saturday as they were blown away by a high quality Blyth Spartans side. There were some fantastic finishes from both sides as Blyth won the game 4-2. Shaun had no chance with any of the Spartans goals as some well-worked football and a penalty sealed a comfortable victory for the home side.
