Joe Riley Pre Bury

Riley looks ahead to facing his former club

Shrewsbury Town Full-Back Joe Riley is more than aware of the threats Bury could cause when they face Town this evening.

Town go into the game against Bury on the back of an incredible late win over Rotherham United on Saturday, when Stefan Payne’s 94th minute strike gave Town a 2-1 victory.

Riley described Saturday’s victory as one of the best games he’s been involved in.

“I think everyone was just buzzing as you can imagine”, said Joe.

“It doesn’t get much better than that – down to 10-men and a 94 minute winner – so it was brilliant. I can’t remember too many more 94th minute winners in my career, especially when you are down to 10-men, so it was brilliant.”

However, Joe believes Town need to move on quickly and thinks his former side are more than capable of providing Town with a tough test.

“It’s a tough game, admitted Riley.

“They are struggling a bit at the minute, but they’ve got an honest bunch of lads there and an honest guy in charge in Ryan Lowe, so they will be right up for it I’m sure.

“I’m a bit surprised with how it’s gone for them, especially with the squad that they’ve got. When they were a few games into the season you start to notice that things might not all be what they seem, but they’ve got some fantastic individuals there, so I’m sure they will turn it around.”

Former Town striker Ryan Lowe is currently in temporary charge of the Shakers and Riley spoke highly of Lowe having played alongside him in the past.

“He’s a top man and I’m sure he’s going to make a very good manager”, Joe said.

“He’s someone that you look up to and to be in the shape that he is at the age that he is shows that he is a top professional. I don’t know how many games he’s played but he’s had a very good career and I’m sure that he will take that into management now.”
