U12s free, U24s frozen and slight increase for adult prices

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce the season ticket prices for the 2018/19 Sky Bet season.

The club has listened to feedback over the season and have looked to set prices which will help to attract more youngsters to the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

As always the season tickets will have an Early Bird sale period where the biggest savings are to be found.

This season has seen U8s get in free for every Sky Bet League One game and this has now been extended.  Next season will see U12s get in free for every Sky Bet League game during 2018/19.

The price for the 12 to 18 age bracket has been frozen with a Cat B season ticket working out at £4.30 per Sky Bet League game.

The recent BBC Price of Football highlighted that young adults can find it hard to come to games and the club have looked to address that. The existing 19-21/Student price bracket has been extended and will now cover the 19 to 23 age group.  A Cat B season ticket will see U24s and students pay just £8.70 per Sky Bet League game.

For the first time in 5 years the adult and concession price bracket will see a slight increase in price.  This still represents great value with a Sky Bet League game at Cat B costing just £13.48 for adults or £9.35 for concessions.  This increase works out at an extra 65p per Sky Bet League game during the 2018/19 season.

Town CEO Brian Caldwell has spoken about looking to bring the next generation of Town fans to the meadow, and is hoping next seasons prices will help to achieve that.

“We’ve had quite a bit of debate internally and with some members of the Supporters’ Parliament as well”, said Brian.

“We’re all keen to encourage younger people to come along to the Montgomery Waters Meadow. By freezing the prices for the younger age groups and streamlining it a bit more by extending the Under-8 season ticket to Under-12 and the 19-21 season ticket to 19-23 year olds, we will hopefully encourage more young people to attend by making it good value for money.”

On the 0-11 age bracket…

“My idea originally was that Primary School children are always going to come with an adult anyway, so you don’t mind giving them away for free. Once you’ve been to your first football game hopefully you will come back. There’s no excuse for the parents because it’s not actually costing them anything throughout the whole of Primary School, which I think is a positive, and hopefully the child is then hooked on Shrewsbury Town.”

On the 12-18 age bracket…

“It is £99 for the 12-18 age bracket and I think that’s good value for money. If you look at Cineworld and think about how much that would cost for 23 visits, or ten-pin bowling, then we are far cheaper and it’s good that we are being attractive with the pricing. Everything else seems to go up in price, but we are trying to keep what we are doing here the same to try and get more young people along.”

On the 19-23 age bracket…

“I want to take away excuses for people not to come. Realistically people aren’t earning a lot of money when they are under-24, so I think we are being fair with that. When you break it down and see how much it is then you realise that it is good value.

On adult and concessions…

“I’ve got to be honest, we looked at raising it last year because it hadn’t been raised for four years. I think we have to raise it at some point and it’s only an extra 65p per game for adults and seniors, which I don’t think is too bad when you consider inflation over the last five years. I hope that season ticket holders will realise that we’re not trying to be unreasonable and will still look at it as good value.”

Next season will also see the start of our Safe Standing area is at the rear of the Salop Leisure Stand and consists of 550 seats from row M through to the back row of the stand. Season tickets in this area will cost the same amount as other Cat B season ticket prices.

Existing season ticket holder seats will be held until June 24th, after that time seats will go on general sale.

Season Tickets for the 2018/19 Sky Bet League season will go on sale on Wednesday 7th March from 9am at the Early Bird price.  The Early Bird period will run until Sunday 15th April.

Season Tickets will once again be able to purchase through Zebra Finance, which allows you to spread the costs across the season.
