Dan Udoh looks ahead to Town's game against Oxford United

11 March 2022

Shrewsbury Town striker Dan Udoh previews Town’s game against Oxford United at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Udoh is Town’s top goalscorer so far this season with 11 goals in all competitions and he also leads the club’s assists leaderboard with six.

The Nigerian discussed tomorrow’s game, the left-wing position he has been playing in recently, and his targets for the season.

On the game:

“Oxford are a very good team at this level. It’s going to be a tough game but like any match at home, we expect to do well and get the result.

“I go into every game wanting to score, wanting to get the three points, but there are some games where we’ve got chances but we’ve not scored. It might’ve been blocked off the line and things like that, but all we can keep doing is keep working and trying to get the wins that’ll hopefully get us to safety first, and then we’ll see how we can end the season.

“It [the reverse fixture] wasn’t a good game from me, I think I was on the right that day but we were unlucky and we lost 2-0 in the end, but it came from our mistakes rather than their doing if that makes sense so hopefully, we can rectify that tomorrow.”

On playing left wing:

“It’s been good, I’ve been getting on the ball a lot more and creating more chances and getting on the end of chances a lot more – which I should be taking. I’ve had three great chances in the last three games and I’ve missed them but one will come through for me soon.

“This season, I’ve experienced every position from left-wing to centre-mid but I’m enjoying it! Wherever the manager needs me to play, wherever the team needs me to play, they know what they’re going to get from me.”

On his targets for the season:

“I didn’t set myself any targets except for getting ten league goals and I’m on eight so if I could get that then I’d be happy, but I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself because I’ve done that before and it didn’t work out.”
