Morgan Feeney on his start to life in Shropshire

6 July 2023

Morgan Feeney met with the local press for the first time since his move to Shropshire.

Last week, the 24-year-old became Town's third summer signing after Michael Parker and Carl Winchester put pen to paper.

Now half-way through the first week of pre-season, the defender discussed how he's settling in and what he hopes to bring to Salop this season.

ON THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF PRE-SEASON:

"I'm delighted to be here. The lads and the staff have been great with me over these first few days so I'm excited to keep going.

"It's great, they made me feel so welcome. It helps you fit in dead easily when you come to a new club so I'm enjoying it and long may it continue.

"It's important because you want to get a full pre-season behind you but the first few days have been tough as they always are and they're only going to get tougher.

"That'll benefit us in the long run so we'll keep going."

ON WHAT HE BRINGS TO THE TEAM:

"I said in my first interview that I'll always give 100% and that I'll always go out there and look to do the right things.

"I'm a defender who likes to defend but we want to play football as well so hopefully I can bring those attributes to the team and do well for the team.

"It's the nature of the game as a centre-halve, you've got to get stuck in which I like to do, blocks and tackles.

"On the flip side of it, I want to be able to play football too in the modern game which we want to do here and I'm looking forward to doing that."

ON HIS GOALSCORING ABILITY:

"I got three goals last year and I was probably unlucky with a couple more so this year I'd like to keep clean sheets but also add at that end as well. Hopefully I can get a couple more up there."

ON WHY HE CHOSE SHREWSBURY TOWN:

"It was a really exciting opportunity for me and my family. The ambitions of the club for me and for the team were key in that and I jumped at the chance. I can't wait to properly get going.

"It's a big club, the lads who are already here are good players. As I said, when the opportunity arose I couldn't turn a club like this down."

ON HIS LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:

"I like taking responsibility on my shoulders and hopefully I can bring that and those leadership qualities to the team and use that as part of my game again."

ON THE AIMS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON:

"Last season was a very successful season but we always want to keep pushing that, have another successful season and hopefully finish higher."
