Post Blackpool | Morgan Feeney

2 March 2024

Morgan Feeney met with the media following our defeat to Blackpool.

In a game where clear-cut chances proved to be at a premium for both sides, goals from Karamoko Dembele and Hayden Coulson won it for Neil Critchley's men.

Town had their moments with Dan Udoh and Jordan Shipley both going close.

But it was the visitors who found that touch of quality when needed to take the points back to Lancashire.

Speaking the media post-match, Morgan discussed the game, Town's position in the League One table and our trip Port Vale next weekend.

On the game:

“It’s massively disappointing. Obviously following the (Lincoln) game in midweek, we wanted to bounce back quickly.

“The game didn’t go how we wanted it to go and I think from now on we have to go out there and fight – we have to fight to win points as best we can.

“We believe we have got ore than enough in the dressing room to get us out of the situation we are in.

“We have got to all come to the table and start fighting and hopefully the results come off the back of that.”

On Blackpool's opening goal:

“The first goal is a soft. I have to hold my hands up. I didn’t do well enough for the first goal.

“I didn’t think there was a lot in the game, in the first half especially.

“But they go into the second half with a 1-0 lead, and then we are up against it if you like in terms of going to get that equalizer.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it.  We had a few half chances where if we could have put one away then maybe it’s a different game.

“Then again it was a soft goal to concede for their second. And that maybe puts the game to bed.

“But we have got to move on quick. It’s disappointing. We are all disappointed in there.

“We need to go again next week and start putting a run of results together.”

On the table and how tight it is:

“We know the situation we are in where a couple of results can bump you up and a couple of results can take you down (the table).

“After the good result away at Reading, we just wanted to go out and win a game of football again so Tuesday night was really disappointing.

“And then today, for large parts of the first half there wasn’t much in it, but they then get the goals and it’s a disappointing result for us.

“We know the situation. We know a couple of wins can take us to relative safety.

“There are 10 games left and we want to win every game we can.

“That is what we will do, next week we will go out there to try and win and then the game after that. We will take it game-by-game.”

On Port Vale next weekend:

“It goes back to taking each game as it comes.

“The next game is another game to go and win.

“But like you say, it’s probably a game where we fancy ourselves to go and get a result.

“These are the games you need to be winning and I feel like we have got more than enough in the group.

“It’s about us stepping up and turning up on the day from now until the end of the season.

“And we are determined to do that.”

On Morgan having played right-back and centre-back recently:

“I’m willing to do a job for the team wherever the manager asks me to go and play.

“If that’s right-back, if it’s centre-back – where I’m obviously more comfortable – I'll just go out there and give it 100% every game. I think we all try and do that.

“But wherever I’m asked to play, I’m delighted to be out there playing and I’ll always give my best for the team.”
