James Collins was back in a Town shirt and back amoungst the goals
James Collins marked his return the Football League with a good performance and two important goals to help Town get their first points on the board.
Collins performance saw a goal in each half, the first a flicked header and the second a poachers goal to put Town back on level terms after AFC Wimbledon had taken a 2-1 lead.
After the game Collo spoke to the press about his first league goals in his second spell at Shrewsbury Town:”On a personal note it was good for me and could have been even better if I'd got the third goal late on.
“To come back from going 2-1 down and show the character the way we did and to play the way we did shows what this team is all about.
“To go back up the road with a hard earned point isn't too bad a way to start the season.”
Collo was delighted with his afternoons work and with his brace of goals that helped Town to the point:”It was a great ball in from Liam for the first one, I managed to get in front of my marker, got the header and the keeper hasn't managed to keep it out.
“For the second it's a great ball across from Natty and I've managed to get a touch on it, it's hit the defender and gone in but it was already on target so it's my goal.
“It's been a good afternoon for me and I'm delighted to have got the brace.”
It could have an even been better afternoon for the striker with chances to add to his two goal tally. There was a great chance with minutes of the game remaining but brave defending by Wimbledon kept it at two:”Connor has done well and managed to square it to me, I've caught it well but the lad has made a great block on the line.
“Unfortunately it didn't happen today but I'm more than happy with the two goals.”
Any striker will be under pressure when they join a club but with two goals in his first outing for Town the pressure is off Collo:”Since I've come back to the club everyone has been brilliant with me and I've felt no pressure on me.
“To get the goals today means I'm back where I was before, scoring goals and enjoying my football.
“As long as I'm comfortable and enjoying my time at Shrewsbury Town then I'm confident that I'll score goals.”
The focus now turns to the Capital One cup on Tuesday night and the visit of Championship side Blackpool. Town will be fancying their chances and Collo is looking forward to more good cup memories in a Town shirt:”It is a great tie for the team and we are all really looking forward to the cup game.
“Blackpool are having a few problems off the pitch and that can only benefit us.
“A cup run would be great, to play Arsenal last time I was here was great and we played and beat the likes of Derby and Swansea on the way to that game.
“If we can beat Blackpool then that will put us in great steed for the future rounds of the competition.”
