“We’ll go there with confidence”

10 January 2014

Joe Jacobson optimistic Town can extend their recent good record against MK Dons

Joe Jacobson believes Town can add to their three match unbeaten away form at MK Dons after a positive week of preparation.

Salop won 3-2 at Stadium:mk last season thanks to an own goal and a brace from Tom Eaves, and Jacobson is confident of another favourable result this weekend.

“We’ve been down at Lilleshall for the last couple of days training on some decent surfaces down there,” said Jacobson.

“The weathers not been great and the pitches around here have been a bit worse for wear, so it was nice to get on some decent ground to work on team stuff that we haven’t been able to do in the last couple of weeks.

“For some strange reason things in football happen. We go a long time without winning away and then we win a few on the bounce and then the home form changes. Away from home now we’ve been doing well and I think our performances have justified those results. We’ll go there tomorrow with a lot of confidence and we want to get a win.

“It’s only a matter of time before Tom nets one or two like he did at MK Dons last season. He ran them ragged last year and if he can do that again then that would be a great help.”

MK Dons boast one of the bigger stadia, and pitches, in League One and Jacobson admits that playing in those circumstances always helps to raise a player’s game.

“It’s a massive pitch. We like playing on big pitches and getting the ball down and getting it out wide and get players on the ball. The surface is always good down there, it allows that and that’s probably why they’ve been so good playing on that surface every week.

“It’s nice to go down there, it always brings the best out of you playing in these big arenas and testing yourself against better players in the league.

Despite being early in January, Jacobson has been linked with a number of clubs in the transfer window – but he insists he’s received no offers or had any contact.

“No I’ve not heard anything. There’s always things flying about for players and whatever but I’ve not heard anything, no one’s come to me and said anything like that so as far as I’m concerned I play for Shrewsbury Town and I’m going to carry on doing that.”
