Micky looking to add competition for Mark Halstead

Micky Mellon has revealed he wants to bring in another goalkeeper to battle it out with new recruit Mark Halstead for the right to be Shrewsbury Town's No 1.

Halstead, 23, signed a two-year contract at the Greenhous Meadow last week after leaving Blackpool.

The Town manager is pleased to have brought in Halstead but wants to sign another keeper to bolster a department also featuring promising home grown youngsters Callum Burton, the England under-18 international, and Harry Lewis.

Micky said: "I want to bring another goalkeeper in. The two young lads we're going to keep developing. I'm fully aware of them. I want them to keep progressing and I want to see how they progress. Let's see how quickly they develop.

"Certainly, Mark's a lad that has probably played second fiddle at Blackpool for longer than he would wanted to do.

"He's a lad with good potential and he's a lad that has come here with a great desire and wants to get better.

"We do want to bring in another goalkeeper and let them two battle it out."
