Micky excited about Chesterfield game

Micky Mellon takes charge of Shrewsbury Town for the first time tomorrow when Chesterfield head to the Greenhous Meadow for the opening pre-season friendly.
The manager has been impressed with how his new-look squad have shaped up during the early weeks of pre-season and now he's looking forward to seeing them take on a Chesterfield side crowned League 2 champions in May.
"They were the best team in League 2 last year," said Micky. "It's probably too early to say we're anywhere near, both teams, as far as we're going to get fitness wise and gelled together.
"It will be a good test for us. They'll have good players but we believe that we've got good players as well so it will just be great to get the lads on to the first team pitch here and just get things moving."
Micky insisted the friendlies are ideal for helping players improve their fitness levels.
He said: "It's probably going to be all about fitness to be honest. We obviously want to see some of the things that we're starting to drip into training now, about how we want to play. We want to try and see that as much as possible.
"Whether or not we have the fitness levels yet to absolutely do what we want to do at the tempo we want for a sustained period of time, I wouldn't think so, but I want them to go out there and express themselves, enjoy themselves and show us how good they are.
"It will be a good test for us but it will be a good test for Chesterfield as well."
Micky also praised the hard work of the club's ground staff in preparing an excellent playing surface.
"Anybody who says they're a footballer will absolutely want to go and play on that pitch which is a credit to the groundsman," he added. "The pitch is absolutely terrific."
