Defender wants to go unbeaten once again
Defender Connor Goldson has called on Shrewsbury Town to start another unbeaten run at Stevenage on Saturday.Town travel to the Lamex Stadium this weekend off the back of their first league defeat of the season at Hartlepool Untied last Saturday.
Goldson was disappointed with the result at Victoria Park but is now hoping that Micky Mellon's side can go on another unbeaten run - starting at Stevenage.
"We wanted to keep that unbeaten run going for as long as we could," said Goldson.
"Obviously now it has come to an end, so we have to start another one and see how many games we can go unbeaten for.
"We don't want to lose games and, with the team we've got, we shouldn't be losing games that easily.
"It's a tough game this weekend, for different reasons, but we're all confident we can go there and take three points.
"They will be strong and in our faces, looking to win a lot of first and second balls, but we know that if we get the ball down and play our own game then we can get three points.
"If you look at the league table, we're still fourth and we still went five games unbeaten.
"There's going to be ups and downs, it's a rollercoaster of 46 games, including cup games as well.
"If we work hard, we should be where we want to be at the end of the season."
Town have yet to win away in the league this season after being held at both AFC Wimbledon and Northampton in their early fixtures on the road.
And Goldson has stressed it is important for Town to start picking up three points on their travels.
"We need to get our first away win, that's what everyone wants," he said.
"It's alright winning all of our home games, which we should, but it's those away games where we need to learn how to pick up points.
"If we can keep clean sheets then we'll always pick up points. We say that to the lads before every single game.
"The bread and butter as defenders is to keep clean sheets and let the others do their work up front."
Goldson was also proud to take the captain's armband for three matches in the absence of skipper Liam Lawrence.
"It's been a proud moment for me being 21-years-old and at the Club I've been at since I was 14," said Goldson.
"I didn't expect to be a captain at 21 so it's come sooner than planned, but now that Liam (Lawrence) is back I'll be happy to give it back to him."
