Micky: We Bounce Back At Stevenage

11 September 2014

Manager not thinking about the defeat at Hartlepool

Manager Micky Mellon insists Shrewsbury Town will put the disappointment of defeat at Hartlepool United behind them when they face Stevenage on Saturday.

Town suffered their first league loss of the season at Victoria Park last weekend, having made a strong start to the Sky Bet League 2 season.

And Micky is adamant his side will recover from their first league setback by bouncing back at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday.

"We won't get sidetracked because of a defeat," said Micky.

"We have a plan about how we want to play here and where we want to take things to.

"We've got a tough game on Saturday which will be very different from the Hartlepool game.

"We'll try and put a team out which we believe can get us a result down there.

"As with a lot of teams in the Football League, they all pose different challenges, and we'll pose a different challenge to what they're probably used to as well.

"We'll go down there fully focused and concentrate on what we believe we need to do well."

Graham Westley's Stevenage have made a mixed start to the new campaign following their relegation from League One last season.

But Micky believes they will provide a tough test for his side when the two teams clash.

"We want to go down to Stevenage and take on the challenge that they will certainly give us," he said.

"We know what we want to do and the way we want to play, so we just try to make sure we keep the standards high and try to achieve that.

"It's good that the lads were disappointed (after the Hartlepool game) because it shows that it matters to them.

"What we've got to do is quickly move away from disappointment and get that optimism going again, and believe that we can move on, and we certainly do."
