Winger hails 1-0 win over Championship Blackpool
Jordan Clark described knocking Championship side Blackpool out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night as an 'unbelievable' feeling.Town beat the Seasiders 1-0 in the first round of the competition at the Greenhous Meadow, thanks to Scott Vernon's close-range finish before half-time.
Micky Mellon's side created enough opportunites to score more than once on the evening.
And Clark, who was named as the sponsors' man of the match for his performance on the wing, could not believe how well Town played.
"It's unbelievable, I can't believe we're through and what a performance it was from the lads," said Clark.
"We played some unbelievable football against a top Championship side. Everyone goes on about the problems they've had but we can't think of stuff like that.
"They still had 11 world-class players and we matched them 100 per cent when we were on the pitch. We were better from minute one.
"We were at it and getting the ball back quick, playing football with quick passing which the manager wants. I think he would be very pleased with the first half.
"We also created a lot of chances and were unlucky not to go in two or three goals ahead after the first half."
It was former Blackpool striker Vernon who popped up with the winning goal after 34 minutes as he bundled home James Collins' flick on with his second touch.
And Clark says the finish came down to the striker's composure when under pressure in front of goal.
"He does it in training every day," said Clark about Vernon's goal.
"A lot of players would have lashed at it, headed it or hit first time, but he's got the experience and calmness just to chest it and put it in. It was an unbelievable feeling when it went in.
"Credit to the team for defending from the front as well, and I thought the back four were exceptional against some very good players.
"They were always going to have good spells throughout the game because they've got quality players, but I thought we rode it out well and matched them in every single department of the pitch."
The 20-year-old believes the Capital One Cup is a great opportunity for Town to pit their wits against higher-division opposition and now cannot wait for the Third Round draw.
"You get a lot of teams that just focus on the league, but this competition is a massive opportunity to play against the bigger teams," said Clark.
"I'll take anyone in the next round because we can beat anyone.
"Hopefully we can get a home tie and get big crowds in and show the fans what we can do this early in the season, so bring on anyone!"
