Skipper braced for Vale clash

Town raring to go against Port Vale

Skipper Tamika Mkandawire says the Shrewsbury Town players are raring to go ahead of Saturday's Greenhous Meadow clash against Port Vale.

Turning the tables on Vale for the 3-1 defeat Town suffered in the Potteries earlier in the season, he said, is also a motivation.

"It's a local derby, a huge fixture for the club and fans, and also for the players," said Mkandawire, writing in his captain's column for Saturday's official matchday programme.

"We have to see it as a perfect opportunity to pick up a win and we definitely feel we owe Port Vale one after losing 3-1 at Vale Park earlier in the season.

"They're having a good season under Micky Adams and have got some decent players. They play at a high tempo so we've got to match that and then take our game to them."

Mkandawire added the Town squad is currently the strongest it's been all season following the recent arrival of a number of new faces.

"We've got more depth and quality to the squad now following the recent arrivals so that's good," he said.

"The lads that have come in are all raring to go and willing to fight for the cause which is the most important thing."
