Extra Seating For Chelsea Game

13 October 2014

Capital One South East and South West stands available for Chelsea game

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce that for the first time at the Greenhous Meadow there will be additional seating for a football match.

Capital One have kindly agreed to cover the costs of the stands which will be known as the Capital One South East Stand and the Capital One South West stand.  Arena Seating will be responsible for the installation of stands and installation will begin on Friday 24th October.

Demand for tickets for the Capital One Cup game at home to Chelsea has been amazing.  After initial priority for season ticket and loyalty point holders the remaining tickets went on general sale today and the remaining 2,000 ticket had been snapped up by 3pm.

The club have been working hard to find ways of increasing the capacity at the Greenhous Meadow and have finally got the green light for two temporary stands to be built between the South and East stands and the South and West stands.  Each stand will have 243 seats and 486 extra tickets will go on sale at 10am Tuesday 14th priced at £20 adults and £10 concessions

It will mean the capacity for the game will be 10,361.  It will be the first football crowd over 10,000 at the Greenhous Meadow and the largest home crowd Town will have played in front of since the FA Cup game at home to Arsenal at the Gay Meadow on Tuesday 27th February 1991 when 12,356 watched the game.

Town CEO Matt Williams said: ”Since the draw for the fourth round of the Capital One Cup demand from people wanting to attend to the Chelsea game has been high.

“We knew the stadium capacity wouldn’t be enough to satisfy demand for the game so have looked at all avenues to be able to add extra seats.

“The help and co-operation that we have received from Capital One, The Football League and the Safety Advisory Group has been brilliant and all have helped to make the extra seats possible.

“For the club to add the extra seating on our own isn’t financially viable but Capital One have been kind enough to fund this by becoming the stand sponsors and we thank them for this kind gesture.”

Both the Capital One South West stand and the Capital One South East stand will be uncovered but we hope the weather is fair and our supporters can share in what promises to be a memorable night.

The other two corners of the stadium will be used by SKY and for emergency access to the stadium.

Tickets will be on sale from the ticket office and online to fans with an SY postcode OR previous purchase history from 10am on Tuesday 14th, fans can buy up to three tickets.
