Woods Wary Of Tranmere Threat

Midfielder expects Rovers to challenge for promotion

Midfielder Ryan Woods is wary of a different Tranmere Rovers side coming to face Shrewsbury Town at the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.

The Merseyside outfit were relegated from League One last season and appointed Rob Edwards as their new manager over the summer.

Town host Rovers for their first home League Two game of the season this weekend and Woods believes that the visitors, like Micky Mellon’s side, will be looking for promotion back to League One at the first attempt.

“We played Tranmere last season in League One, and they did struggle along with us,” said Woods.

“This season is different because they’ve got a new manager now the same as us.

“They’ll be having a good go to try and get back up at the first attempt.”

Rovers salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to York City in their opening game before being knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

But Woods believes Edwards’ side will still be prepared to take on Town.

“They’ll come here on Saturday and will have a plan to try and beat us,” he said.

“But knowing how good we are, I think we can beat anybody on our day.”

The 20-year-old, who has featured in both of Town’s two games so far – against AFC Wimbledon and Blackpool – is now looking to keep on making the starting eleven and wants to add more goals to his game.

“I want to play in every game I possibly can and try to get on the goal-scoring sheet more this season,” said Woods.

“That’s something I’m looking to do and hopefully it can happen.
