Manager also staying grounded despite result
Manager Micky Mellon was delighted after Shrewsbury Town secured a 2-0 win over Mansfield Town on Saturday - but reiterated his side will not be getting carried away.Second-half goals from Bobby Grant - the winger's first for Town - and striker James Collins gave the Shrews another three points in the Sky Bet League 2 game at the Greenhous Meadow.
Micky's side moved up to second in the league table after seeing off the ten-man Stags, Jamie McGuire the man sent off for the visitors.
And the Town boss was pleased to earn a sixth-straight league win but remained grounded after full-time.
"I the end I was absolutely delighted and it was a fantastic three points for us," said Micky.
"I told them to keep patient but don't be too patient because if you keep on turning down those passes into frontmen, you've got to make sure that you still have one eye on trying to create chances and trying to score goals.
"We've done nothing yet, though, other than pick up another three points to add to the tally that we have.
"We won't be getting carried away. We know that there's an awful lot of work to be done.
"There's standards that we have to keep on continually meeting all the time."
The two sides went in at the break with the game being goalless, although Mansfield were down to ten man after two bookings for McGuire.
Micky said: "In the first half we knew it was always going to be difficult to break down a well-organised Mansfield side.
"We just knew that we had to hang in there because we know we've got good athletes and good footballers and eventually we believed that they would represent us and get us a result like we did.
"We went out in the second half and upped the tempo a little bit. We believed in the good players we have and the huge athletes we have that they would eventually make an impact, and they did."
On-loan Blackpool winger Grant fired in his first goal for the Club in the 59th minute with a blockbuster from just inside the box.
"We see him every day in training and he's capable of doing what he did (for his goal)," said Micky.
"He's a terrific talent, Bobby. We're delighted to have him here.
"We were delighted to see it hit the back of the net when it did because that really opened up the game and we gained a lot of control then."
Collins grabbed his eighth goal of the season to double Town's lead, and Micky was just as pleased for the striker who is beginning to get back among the goals again.
"I'm delighted for Collo. I like goalscorers, that's what they're all about - they want to score goals," said Micky.
"I was pleased to see him score a goal and a it was a good goal as well. We just keep on trying to churn out the results now.
"What I was pleased about is that we had to bring in Cameron Gayle and Mark Ellis at Walsall and I've spoken to them during the week and thanked them for making sure they were game-ready and keeping the group moving forward.
"It's great that we know we've got a group here that, when we call upon them, can come in and carry the level of performance from the team forward."
Micky also revealed he is hoping to have forward Andy Mangan back in time for Tuesday night's FA Cup First Round replay against Walsall after a recurring knee problem.
"He got injured on Thursday in training," said Micky.
"He's got a knee injury that keeps flaring up every now and again.
"We don't think there's any damage to it other than that now and again it flares up a little bit.
"We've had a look at it and it's just one of these things that we've known about it as a historic injury.
"Unfortunately for him he wasn't available to play against Mansfield.
"We'll monitor and work on him and try to get him available for a fantastic cup tie (against Walsall) on Tuesday."
