"It's a massive point for us"

Ryan Woods believes Wolves result will be a confidence booster

Youngster Ryan Woods says Saturday's goalless draw at Wolves was the "best result" in Shrewsbury's season. Town's opponents had won nine straight matches - a club record - going into the fixture at Molineux but the league leaders were frustrated by a determined, dogged performance which left Town reflecting on a third clean sheet in the last six games.

"It's a massive point for us," said Woods, restored to his more natural midfield role. "We wanted to get three but you come to a ground and team like this and they shouldn't be in our league if we're honest. We've worked hard as a team and deserved the result.

"I'd say it's the best result we've had. The Notts County game was a good one, winning when we were two nil down, but to come to a team like Wolves in their own backyard and get a draw is a massive confidence booster."

Town had to dig deep in the remaining half hour as Wolves started to up the tempo. But with central defenders Connor Goldson and Tamika Mkandawire outstanding, Shrewsbury stood firm.

"We dropped a bit deeper as you would anyway, it's natural," said Woods. "I said to a few of the lads I think that's the hardest I've ever worked in a match, without touching the ball very often. When you don't have it, you're using your brain a lot more than your legs. Physically though we did well and got through it."

It wasn't all one way traffic though, and Town could have snatched it in the second half when Goldson and substitute Tom Eaves missed good opportunities.

"Connor is having quite a few chances lately, getting forward for corners," said Woods. "Hopefully he'll get one for us, maybe on Tuesday. I said to Tom at the end of the game, he's chosen to go on himself because he had confidence in his own ability to score but maybe he should have passed it. But we're all young and still learning."

Now attention turns to Tuesday's important match at Colchester, a team only five points above Town in the league table. It's also Shrewsbury's game in hand over many of their rivals.

"If we keep working hard as a team and creating chances, we'll have no problem in getting out of the drop zone," said Woods.

"We'll take massive confidence from the Wolves game and take it to Colchester on Tuesday knowing we can get a result."
