Mike Jackson Post Carlisle United

16 September 2014

Jacko took the postmatch questions and was pleased with the 3 points

Town returned to the Greenhous Meadow looking to bounce back after two defeats on the road.

It was another performance where Town created a number of good chances and on the day it was a Jermaine Grandison header that was the difference.

After the game assistant manager Mike Jackson took the questions and was asked for his thoughts on the game:”I think a win is what everyone needed, after you lose two games everyone becomes a little bit edgy.

“We missed a couple of chances but the most important thing today was getting the 3 points and we did that.

“The expectancy now is for us just to turn teams over especially when they come and sit behind the ball, Carlisle might be bottom of the league but they are a decent team.

“No one is going to come here and just roll over and we made a bit of meal of it towards the end of the game but we will learn from tonight.”

The timing of Town’s goal was good with it coming minutes before the half-time break, a lovely header back across goal from Jermaine Grandison:”In all the recent games we’ve created good chances especially in the game on Saturday at Stevenage.

“Fair play to Jermaine he’s stayed up in the box and popped up with a great header.

“I think we had some great situations again but didn’t take those, but it will come.

“We look at the stats from over the last six games or so and they are up there where we want them to be.

“It’s just that we aren’t taking some chances at the moment but with the quality of the players that we have that won’t be a problem.”

Jacko was quick to praise Jermaine Grandison for his performances in this game and in Saturday’s narrow defeat at Stevenage:”I think in the game against Stevenage he’s done well and he’s done that again tonight.

“That’s credit to him but he’s got to keep those standards high because when he plays like that he is a big plus to the team.

“It’s about getting him recovered now and ready for the weekend so he can put a run of games together of that standard.”

With only the 1-0 scoreline Carlisle were always in with a shout of getting back into the game and they made more of game of it in the second half:”I think to be fair Carlisle came out in the second half and had a go, in the first they seemed happy to get men behind the ball and to keep things tight.

“When it’s 1-0 they think they’ve got nothing to lose so just go for it and we were a little bit sloppy with the ball which didn’t help.

“We changed it a big to get Clark off the front man and that worked for a bit but they changed it again and we are then each reacting to the substitutions.

“On the whole the dressing room is happy, we wish we could win every game like we did against Luton but that’s not going to happen.”

Town’s home form so far this season couldn’t be any better with five wins out of five at the Greenhous Meadow, good home form but Jacko wants the away form to improve:”We’ve got to keep doing that and it will be a big thing for us if we can do but we need to start picking points up on the road.

“We are more than capable of doing that and in all the games we’ve played, maybe bar Hartlepool, we have deserved a point if not all three.

“We’ve got another home game on Saturday and then the cup game here after that and everyone is enjoying it, we just need to keep working hard.”

Saturday sees the visit of Newport County AFC to the Greenhous Meadow and a game which will prove to be a different test than the passing game that Carlisle tried to play:”You look at the teams this year and there are a lot who play long balls and then look for the second ball.

“It is something that we’ve had to adapt too from last year and I’m expecting more of the same on Saturday.

“We will have three or four games of theirs to watch, Vern will be on his computer getting all the stats and we will all come together on Thursday to make sure we are all prepared.”
