Town drawn against Blackpool in Capital One Cup

17 June 2014

Home draw for Town as they look to start cup run

Shrewsbury Town have been handed a home tie against Championship club Blackpool in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The tie will be played at the Greenhous Meadow in the week beginning Monday, August 11.

It will mean a quick reunion with the Bloomfield Road club for Town chief executive Matt Williams and goalkeeper Mark Halstead, one of the eight players signed this summer by manager Micky Mellon, also a former Blackpool player.

Town bowed out in the first round of the competition last season, beaten 3-1 at home by Championship club Bolton Wanderers.

But the club memorably reached the third round in the 2011/12 season, knocking out Derby County and Premier League Swansea City before losing 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Town's League Two fixtures will be announced tomorrow morning at 9am so make sure you check ShrewsWeb to see the fixture list first.

Ties to be played week commencing 11th August 2014.
