Defender delighted with headed effort
Defender Jermaine Grandison was delighted to score the winning goal for Shrewsbury Town against Carlisle United on Tuesday night - and wants to chip in with a few more!The 23-year-old, who has been deployed as a right back by manager Micky Mellon in the last two games, popped up with a looping header just before half-time to give Town a 1-0 win on the night.
In the 1-0 defeat to Stevenage in the previous game, Grandison was unfortunate to see a similar header crash back off the crossbar as Town searched for a deserved equaliser.
Against Carlisle, the Birmingham-born defender's effort this time squeezed in underneath the crossbar.
And he was pleased to get his first goal for the Club since scoring at Notts County two years ago.
"It's always nice to be on the scoresheet and for me, being a big lad, I need to start scoring a few more from set-pieces," said Grandison.
"We created a few chances, I think now we just need to start taking even more of our chances and kill off teams.
"I thought that I got forward really well and created a few chances, I enjoyed getting on the ball.
"Before the game we said that we needed to make sure we got the three points after the defeats, so the win was the most important thing."
Town picked up their first clean sheet since their last game at the Greenhous Meadow - a 2-0 win against Luton Town - and Grandison believes the shutout against Carlisle gave his side the springboard to go on and win the game.
"It's always important to get a clean sheet. If we get one then we get at least a draw," he said.
"We got a winning goal to go with as well, so three points was the most important thing."
Town have a 100 per cent record at home this season with five wins from five - one in the Capital One Cup - and Grandison feels good form at the Greenhous Meadow will be important for Micky's side.
"We need to make sure we carry on winning at home and try to take it into our away form as well," he said.
"It's like the year when we got promoted, we were unbeaten at home so we need to do the same this season.
"We need to be confident and enjoy our football. We need to keep passing it around and do what we do best.
"As long as we're composed and confident in games then we'll get the three points."
