Away trip to start Town’s fight back

The SkyBet League 2 fixtures are out and Town will reacquaint themselves with a number of old friends and adversaries.

Town’s first five games in August will see trips to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday 9th and Northampton Town on Saturday 23rd, there will be home ties against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday 16th, Accrington Stanley on Tuesday 19th and then Luton Town on Saturday 30th.

The Christmas and New Year period doesn’t look as hectic as some years, it starts with a game at home to Morecambe on Saturday 20th, the Boxing Day game is away to Oxford United which is quickly followed by a home tie against Wycombe Wanderers on Sunday 28th and then a New Year’s trip to Burton Albion on Saturday 3rd January 2015.

The final five games of the league campaign see Town welcome Exeter City to the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday 11th April, we then travel to Gigg Lane to take on Bury on Tuesday 14th, home to York City on Saturday 18th, away to Cheltenham Town before ending the season with a home game against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 2nd May.

With the fixtures now out there Town manager Micky Mellon can start to plan Town’s fight back:”There’s not an easy fixture that you can pick out and you have to play everyone over the season, we have a trip to Wimbledon first and that is a really tough place to go.

“It’s great now that you can see the challenges that are in front of us and we can start the preparation.

“We can look at planning and getting around to watching the teams that we have to play and look at the vital moments during the season.

“Our focus now is the Wimbledon game and how we approach that and using all the games in pre-season to prepare for that.”
