Gaffer still looking to use budget to bolster squad

Micky Mellon prefers not to put a number on how many more additions he would like to make to Shrewsbury Town's new-look squad this summer.

The arrivals of former Aberdeen striker Scott Vernon and ex-Blackpool winger James Caton made it 10 signings for the manager since he was appointed last month.

He has other targets in mind as he continues to build an exciting squad.

Micky said: "At the end of the day we have a budget and if we can squeeze all the players that I can into the budget that I believe are important to what we want to do then we'll do that.

"There's no real numbers but of course we need a squad that hopefully covers all eventualities that you have through the season with suspensions, injuries and loss of form.

"You need to have a squad to cope with all that so we're well on the way and we're pleased with where we are.

"There's still some work to do, players to meet and to talk to, and we'll make sure that we do that with due diligence with anyone we want to bring into the building. They'll have to fit into that profile that we want.

"We won't rush that, we'll take our time, and I'm confident I'll put together a team for the Shrewsbury Town fans and public that will represent them properly."
