Gayle could be out for four weeks

19 March 2013

Hamstring injury will keep Cameron out of action

Cameron Gayle faces the prospect of up to a month out after suffering an injury in last weekend's match at Crewe Alexandra.

The right back, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, picked up a hamstring injury early in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Gresty Road.

"I'm told it's a grade one/two hamstring injury," said manager Graham Turner. "He's had a scan at West Brom. They are diagnosing a serious pull and the possibility of him being out for four weeks.

"He will need a bit of time to recover once he starts training again so it's a blow as he's been doing quite well for us.

"He's been getting forward a lot better now and has looked like he's been enjoying playing there so it's another blow to us on the injury front."

GT now has to weigh up the best way to replace Gayle, beginning with Saturday's home match against Oldham Athletic, and he's not without options.

"We've got one or two options there," he said. "I think it's probably too soon to consider Jermaine Grandison but after his setback last week I'm told he's starting his running programme again with a view to joining in training on Thursday.

"But again it's going to be another 10 days or so before he's going to be fit.

"Connor Goldson played there earlier on in the season, Rob Purdie can play there, so I've got a choice."
