"Nine games left, 27 points to play for"

Asa Hall says the belief remains in the squad

Midfielder Asa Hall says the belief remains that Shrewsbury Town can still survive the drop from League One.

Tuesday's disappointing one-nil defeat at Colchester United was a setback in Town's efforts to climb out of the bottom four, but Hall is still backing his team-mates to come good, starting at the Greenhous Meadow against Bradford City on Saturday.

"There are nine games left, 27 points to play for and we need as many as we can," said Hall.

"Mike Jackson is just trying to keep us all together, he could have ranted and raved after the game but he said he's sticking by us. We need to be positive, no-one can fault the effort but it's the end product in the final third we need to get right. We have to believe we can do it."

Things could have been very different for Town if Bolton loanee Tom Eaves had taken an early chance to put them in front, but he could only send a free header over the bar.

"Had that gone in, it would've been a completely different game," said Hall. "He's a bit of a confidence player, and if it had gone in, we'd have won."

Hall admitted the second half performance was below par but he refused to blame tired legs after Town's efforts at Wolves on Saturday to claim a 0-0 draw.

"We won't use tiredness as an excuse," he said. "That game has gone, we were ready for Colchester, we knew it was coming, and we've been prepared for games on Saturday and Tuesday - everyone is really disappointed in the dressing room."
