Woods: Hardest Draw But We Can Win

2 September 2014

Midfielder confident of JPT progression at Preston

Midfielder Ryan Woods believes Shrewsbury Town can beat Preston North End in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night - despite it being 'the hardest draw we could have got'.

Town will travel to Deepdale for the first round of the competition (7.45pm kick-off) looking to knock out the League One Lilywhites and reach round two.

North End were close to promotion to the Championship last season after reaching the Play-Offs, losing in the semi-final to Rotherham United.

But Woods believes Town's current form means they can go to Lancashire confident of beating Simon Grayson's side.

"We all know that it's probably the hardest draw we could have got, but we're all confident and striving for the same thing," said Woods.

"We can definitely go there and cause another upset.

"We're unbeaten so far this season and that's definitely one thing we want to keep hold of.

"We went there last year and didn't have very good memories, but this season's completely different and we've got a very good team this year.

"We can go there with confidence that we can win."

Woods played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday and was delighted with the outcome of that game.

"They were brilliant points and the performance was tremendous," he said.

"It's been a long time coming anyway, we've been fantastic so far this season.

"We just need to keep doing that now, starting with Preston on Tuesday.

"We all have the banter of each other that you wouldn't expect to have."

The 20-year-old is looking to feature as often as possible for Micky Mellon's team this season and wants to add more goals to his game.

"This year I've been looking to play as many games as I can, obviously I want to play in every game, but it's down to the gaffer to pick me and it's down to me to help make him pick me in each game," said Woods.

"I want to try and add some more goals to my game as well. I did have a few chances on Saturday but my shooting was off.

"I'll keep trying and look to improve every day."
