Town midfielder looks ahead to the visit of Oldham
Shrewsbury Town midfielder Abu Ogogo isn’t underestimating Saturday’s opponents Oldham Athletic.Latics have score just 13 goals this season and sit 23rd in League One, whilst Town go into the game on the back of a great win against Bradford last time out.
Ogogo was pleased with Town’s performance against Bradford, but believes a win against Oldham is just as important.
“It was a very good performance by the boys”, said the former Arsenal trainee.
“We thoroughly deserved the win and maybe could have scored a few more on the break. We knew it was going to be a tough game, but the most important thing was the three points and we got that.
“Obviously the boys were buzzing with the win and then you look at the table and see we’ve dropped into the relegation zone, so that was a bit deflating, but we can only look after ourselves and take care of our jobs.
“We got the three points which we needed and we can’t really pay too much attention to other results, you have to go out there, make sure we perform and get the points.”
Saturday’s game with Oldham is the first in a trio of clashes against other sides in and around Town in the League One table and Abs is hopeful Town get put a run together.
“We’ve got some winnable fixtures coming up”, said Ogogo.
“Saturday we can’t afford to lose, we really need to win that one and then we go to Gillingham, hopefully pick up something there and go on a run and get as many points as we can on the board.
“People will make the mistake of thinking we’ve beaten Bradford who are up there and now are playing Oldham who are down the bottom so we should win, but every games different.
“They are fighting for their lives so we know it is going to be a tough game, but we need to get out there, start the game well and hopefully get the points.”
Ogogo has been in fine form alongside midfield partner Gary Deegan in recent weeks and he believes that Town are starting to get used to Paul Hurst’s way of playing.
“You can see from the players that he’s signing that he is trying to implement his own style, but as long as we get the three points it doesn’t really matter what formation we play”, Abu said.
“I have to be a little bit more disciplined because obviously you’ve got the front two and the two wingers that all want to bomb on, so then me and Deegs have to be more disciplined, but he’s said that when the ball is in wide areas if one of us can hit the box then we should do.
“Gary’s great to play alongside. He always wants the ball, keeps the game ticking over, similar to myself, so I believe our styles gel well together.”
