CEO pleased after busy month of incomings
Town enjoyed a busy January transfer window, but Chief Executive Brian Caldwell was pleased with the work that got done.Town made eight signings while a further eight players have left the club since Paul Hurst took over in October.
Brian admitted that he was glad to have January out of the way after what proved to be a tiring final couple of days.
“It’s been a long month”, Brian told ShrewsWeb.
“Before the month started we always knew we were going to be making quite a number of changes and additions to the squad and it’s been fairly full on to be honest.
“The 31st was probably one of the longest and strangest days I’ve ever had in my 20 years in football. But, I’m glad it’s over for the players’ sake because they can settle down knowing there’s no additions coming in until the end of the season.
“But, I’m sure that won’t stop Paul looking ahead to new signings for next season as well.”
With eight new signings, including three permanent deals, Paul now has more options in and around the squad and Brian was pleased with the business done.
“We’re very pleased with the work that was done”, said Caldwell.
“Prior to the window opening Paul had intimated that he wanted to get as many as eight new faces in, so we’ve achieved that. We’ve also had eight go the other way as well, whether that’s loan or permanent.
“Hopefully the squads been enhanced. I think the results over January have shown that there’s been an improvement and we’ve made another two this week. Once they settle in, over the course of the next three months, we will get the benefit of those players as well.”
This was Paul’s first transfer window as Town boss and Brian believes the club backed him 100%.
“We always said when he came in that we would back Paul as best as we could”, Brian said.
“We all want what’s best for the football club and we tried to help him as much as we possibly could throughout the whole window and backed him 100%.
“Obviously some things didn’t come off that perhaps Paul would have liked, but I think he’s now in a good place and he’s quite content with the squad that he’s got.
“He’s got strength in depth and he can look on the bench now and have various options that perhaps he didn’t have before.”
