Physio hoping to get Abs back as soon as possible

Town Physio Chris Skitt has revealed that Abu Ogogo’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

A scan on Thursday revealed that Ogogo had injured his medial ligament, rather than cruciate, and would be out for around 10 to 12 weeks.

Chris is confident that Ogogo will make a speedy recovery.

“We managed to get him through the game without any potential of making it worse”, Chris told ShrewsWeb.

“We were quite concerned for the state of the ligament on the side of his knee, but thankfully we’ve had it scanned, monitored it and it looks to be a little bit better news than we expected.

“It’s the medial collateral ligament, which can be a difficult one to rehab, but we will take our time with it and make sure that he’s back fighting fit.”

Work has already started on Abu’s recovery, training with Skitt on Friday, as they look to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.

“Initially he’s been placed in a brace which limits movement side to side, but it also limits the range”, said Skitt.

“He will go through a protocol where he progresses through the ranges of movement over the next six weeks and then it will be a matter of trying to build him through things and getting him to progress with the strength and the balance.

“He will continue to train. My view is that he has only injured his knee, his cardiovascular system still needs to be worked and in that regard we can keep him going, so when he does get back to doing functional fitness he won’t have so far to get up to speed.”

Ogogo looks set to miss the rest of the season, but the injury is not as serious as those suffered by Nat Knight-Percival and James Wesoloski in recent years.

“Someone with a significant medial injury can look to be out for around 10 to 12 weeks, which will obviously bring him tight towards the end of the season,” said Chris.

“We will obviously do our upmost and get him back as soon as we can. If that shaves a little bit of time off then great, but you are looking at right up until the end of the season with the 12 week mark.”

“But, if there had have been cruciate damage then you are looking at six months in the best case and probably more realistically up to the nine month mark. Fortunately for Abs it’s not that and we can kick on with him and start the rehab from today really.”
