Community invite interested students to an open evening event

Shrewsbury Town in the Community are inviting all interested young people to attend our foundation degree in Community football, coaching and development open information evening on Monday 20th February 2017 6pm till 7.30pm in the community hub at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

This event is aimed at all college, sixth form leavers or mature students who are interested in an educational professional higher education career in football and coaching.

This foundation degree in particular is one of a kind and provides an opportunity to gain industry recognised coaching awards and knowledge whilst being affiliated to a professional football club.

About The Course:
The course has been designed in conjunction with the Football League Trust. It allows you to study all sub-disciplines of coaching and gain valuable industry-recognised qualifications. It will teach you aspects of children’s and youth coaching, football coaching, football development, social inclusion and sports management skills.

The degree will be based within Shrewsbury Town football club, with lectures, seminars and tutorials delivered on site and material online. There will be further opportunity to apply your knowledge with an extensive work based learning programme provided by Shrewsbury Town football club, allowing you to work in specific roles and in real like football projects (this is the only university course in the country to provide this).

The academic programme enables you to gain a level 1 and level 2 football coaching certificates (pending a final assessment). The course is designed to give you the best opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in all coaching – related disciplines. You will be integrated into Shrewsbury Town football club and engaged in community coaching opportunities.

Course Content:
You will study all coaching related disciplines. PE in school sport, community sports development, and extensive work based learning opportunities will be integrated into your timetable. Specific football coaching modules involve completion of a Level 1 and Level 2 coaching certificate. You will also have opportunities during your study to gain vocational experience working within your football club.

How Will You Study?
You will learn through classroom based lectures and seminars in the educational room in the community hub based at Shrewsbury Town football club. As well as practical learning in the fields and laboratories at the University of South Wales Campus in Cardiff when on residentials. You will complete up to 200 hours of coaching (work based learning) to give you vital skills for a career in youth coaching, football development, sport science or performance analysis.

Location:
You will be enrolled as a student at the University of South Wales and have access to the online library, virtual learning environment and other learning materials. Your residentials shall take place in Cardiff at the University of South Wales base where you will receive full accommodation during these teaching blocks and your weekly academic lectures will take place in the education hub based at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

Career Opportunities:
You can enter a number of careers when you graduate, such as community manager, social inclusion officer, women and girls officer at a professional football club, football development officer, football in the community coach, or sports development officer. You could even enter other careers, such as the armed forces or emergency services.
