Goalscorers thoughts after the win over Bradford

Town edged out promotion chasing Bradford at the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday thanks to a home debut goal from Freddie Ladapo.

Ladapo’s strike came in the 41st minute after Louis Dodds had broken away down the right hand side, and after having his shot saved, Ladapo was on hand to slot home the rebound.

Ladapo’s goal was enough to give Town a 1-0 win, and him the man of the match award.

“I’m delighted,” he told the press.

“Obviously I’m happy to get the goal and I’m happy with the way the team played, because it’s good to get the win and the three points after a good performance.”

Colin Doyle had earlier denied Ladapo with a superb save, after Ladapo found himself one-on-one with the keeper after a fine one-two with Dodds.

He said: “I had one chance before, and I was thinking if I don’t get one before I leave today I would actually be depressed.

“I’m just happy it fell to me and that I was able to get the rebound.

“Me and him [Dodds] were linking up quite well, so when he was driving with it, I was just trying to find space so if he needed me I was free.”

After joining on loan from Crystal Palace Ladapo was one of three January signings made by Paul Hurst, all of whom made their home debuts versus Bradford.

“From the back, to the midfield and the strikers – everyone was getting stuck in today and we made sure not to give them a yard – because they’re a good team.

“As a striker, you want people to expect you to score, rather than just hoping that you will. I like to give everything to the team, but I should be getting the goals and give the fans something to shout about.”

Town’s next game sees Oldham Athletic travel to the Greenhous Meadow next Saturday, a club where Ladapo spent the first half of the season on loan scoring three goals in 22 appearances.

“I’m looking forward to the next game and they can’t come any quicker. I’m sure the boys will be looking to give me a little something on the pitch.

“I’m expecting a tough game, but every game is tough in this league, so hopefully we can recreate the performance from today.”
