Head to Head: AFC Wimbledon

Matt Bullin takes a look at our recent record against AFC Wimbledon

Having only met five times previously – Shrewsbury and AFC Wimbledon cannot be separated historically. Both sides have won once; while there have been three draws in the five match ups so far.

In the most recent fixture between the sides came earlier this season – and the points were shared in 1-1 draw at the Cherry Red Records Fans Stadium.

Lyle Taylor scored in the sixth minute to give Wimbledon the lead – before Ian Black netted just after half time to give Town a draw.

The sides also met twice in the 2014/15 season in League Two. The second tie ended in a fine 2-0 win for Town at the Greenhous Meadow.

Liam Lawrence and Scott Vernon struck either side of half time to give Town all three points.

Earlier in that season a James Collins double ensured Town escaped the Cherry Red Records Fans Stadium with a point.

Collins struck early to give Town the lead – before Matt Tubbs and Sean Rigg both netted to give Wimbledon the lead. But in the 84th minute Collins scored his second to make it 2-2, and rescue Town a point.

The sides met twice in League Two in the 2011/12 as well – and in the second fixture Wimbledon took all three points with a 3-1 home win.

Byron Harrison scored just after half time, and Luke Moore doubled Wimbledon’s lead ten minutes later. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff pulled one back for Town shortly after but it was nothing more than a consolation as Luke Moore struck his second of the day and wrapped up the three points for Wimbledon.

When the sides met in October 2011 it was the first time the sides had ever met – but unfortunately for the fans on both sides – it was not a match to remember as it ended in a drab 0-0 draw.
