We take a look at our last 5 meetings with Bristol Rovers
Town welcome Bristol Rovers to the Greenhous Meadow this Saturday and they will be attempting to make up for Tuesday night’s defeat which saw them crash out of the FA Cup after a 95th minute Fleetwood winner.There have been a total of 59 meetings between the clubs and Rovers hold the historical edge having won the fixture 28 times to Town’s 17 wins and there have been 14 draws.
Though in the most recent meeting between the sides came on Valentine’s Day in 2012. Town came out on top in the match, beating Rovers 1-0 at the Meadow thanks to an 86th minute winner from James Collins.
However earlier in that season it was Rovers who won the fixture, beating Town 1-0 at the Memorial Stadium after an early Chris Zebroski strike.
The 2006/07 season also saw the sides meet in the League Two Play Offs Final. A day which Town fans will remember for all the wrong reasons at Rovers won 3-1 at Wembley after a brace from Richard Walker and a goal from Sammy Igoe cancelled out Stewart Drummond’s opener for Town and secured Rovers’ promotion into League One.
In the 2006/07 the sides were separated by just one placing and one point come the end of the season. So it’s perhaps unsurprising then that in the second league match of the season the sides shared the points in a 0-0 draw at the Meadow.
Earlier in the season it was again Rovers who came out on top though. This time in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, Southern Semi-final, Rovers won 1-0 at the Meadow to set up a Southern Final with Bristol City.
Town’s biggest win over Rovers came all the way back in 1962 when they put seven past them to win 7-2 in the old Division Three.
Paul Hurst’s men will be hoping for a similar result comes on Saturday as they look to move off the bottom of the table.
