Since the turn of the millennium Shrewsbury Town and Charlton Athletic have only met twice with the bulk of these sides match ups coming in the 1970s and 80s.Historically Town hold a slight edge with six wins from the 18 fixtures, while Charlton have five wins, and there have been seven draws.
When the sides met earlier this season a brace from Ricky Holmes and a Johnnie Jackson strike ensured Charlton ran out 3-0 winners at The Valley.
Prior to that match the sides met in a League Cup thriller in 2010 as Town came back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 at the Greenhous Meadow.
Pawel Abbott scored twice and Lee Martin added a third to give Athletic a three goal lead after just 32 minutes.
But Jake Robinson replied quickly, and a Yado Mambo own goal made it 3-2 at the turn of the half.
Daniel O’Donnell found the target on the hour mark to equalise for League Two Salop, before Matt Harrold netted in the 76th to send the Town fans into raptures.
Harrold’s strike ensured the club’s passage into the second round of the League Cup, where they lost 2-1to Premier League Stoke City despite a Steve Leslie goal.
Before then Shrewsbury and Charlton last met twice in Division Two in the 1985/86 season which saw Charlton finish second and gain promotion, while Town finish 17th.
In the second match of that season Town earnt a hard fought 2-1 win at the Gay Meadow.
While earlier in the season they were outclassed at The Valley as Athletic ran out 4-1 winners.
The sides also met twice in Division Two in the 1984/85 season as Shrewsbury finished in an impressive eighth while Charlton finished in 17th.
The sides both took two points from the match ups in that season, as both matches ended in 1-1 draws.
