Shrewsbury hold a slender historical edge in the fixture having won 21 of the 50 matches between the sides, while Northampton have won 20 of the ties, and there have been nine draws.

The last match between the sides was Micky Mellon’s last in charge at the Greenhous Meadow as Northampton beat Town 4-2 at home.

Gabriel Zakuani took the lead for the visitors in the 36th minute, before Paul Anderson doubled their lead on the half hour mark. Ivan Toney pulled one back for Town from the spot before the break.

But Sam Hoskins restored their two-goal cushion, and then Anderson scored again to make it 4-1. Toney bagged from the spot again in injury time to restore some parity but ultimately it was too little too late.
