Historically, the clubs cannot be separated in this fixture. Remarkably Shrewsbury and Peterborough both have 15 wins in the league in this fixture and one win in the FA Cup, while there have been 17 draws between the sides.The most recent meeting between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw at the Greenhous Meadow.
When the Posh travelled to Shrewsbury earlier this season Gwion Edwards gave the visitors the lead before Ian Black’s looping header levelled for Town just before the hour mark – only for Black to spurn a golden chance to win it for Town as he had a penalty saved late on.
The sides also met twice in the 2015/16 season – with the second of the match ups being a seven-goal thriller which saw Peterborough win 4-3 at the Greenhous Meadow.
Town found themselves 3-0 down at home after 70 minutes played after a brace from Lee Angol and a Jack Baldwin strike put the Posh in front, only for Town to stage an incredible comeback.
Goals from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Andy Mangan and Jack Grimmer pulled it back to 3-3, before Town hearts were broken in the 94th minute when former Shrewsbury man Jon Taylor ghosted into make it 4-3 and steal all three points for the Posh.
Earlier in the season it had been a quieter affair at the AMAX Stadium as the game finished in a 1-1 draw.
Conor Washington took the lead for Peterborough, before Tyrone Barnett’s 79th minute equaliser ensured the points were shared.
The sides met twice in League One action in the 2013/14 season too – the second match in that season seeing the Posh beat Town 4-2 at the Greenhous Meadow.
Jon Taylor struck early to give Town the lead – but 15 minutes of chaos ensued – and Peterborough scored in the 13th and the 21st through Conor Washington and again in the 28th minute via Lloyd Isgrove to take a 3-1 lead.
Tom Bradshaw pulled one back for Town on the brink of half time – but ultimately it wasn’t enough as Josh McQuoid scored in injury time to make the result safe for the Posh.
Earlier in that season Peterborough took all three points at the AMAX Stadium – winning 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.
