How Big Is Our Pitch?

Gaffer Explains Reasons For Resizing

Since the final whistle blew on our penultimate match of last season, the ground staff at the Greenhous Meadow began work shorten the length of the pitch.

The work has been completed and the pitch will now measure 110 x 72 yards to make it a similar size to the majority of pitches throughout the leagues.

In a recent interview with ShrewsPlayer, Micky was pleased to be able to clarify the reasons behind the changes being implemented to the Meadow pitch.

He said: “I’m glad I had the opportunity to clarify this.

“We had one of the biggest pitch in England and now we have the same size as everyone else, so everybody who we play against will have the same size pitch.

“There was no other reason than to want to have the same size pitch as everyone else rather than the biggest pitch in the country – bigger than the Bernabeu. So now it’s the same size as everyone else’s.

“We will now play the same size of pitch at home as we will do in 90-95% of away games which I think is important for us.

“It’s nothing to do with the team shape we’re going to play or with certain personnel that we’re going to play. It’s the same size as everyone else’s.”

Town fans will get a first look at the pitch size this Saturday when Championship side Cardiff City visit the Greenhous Meadow.
