Fulham striker Stephen Humphrys joins until the end of the season
Shrewsbury Town have completed their sixth signing of the transfer window by bringing in Stephen Humphrys on a loan deal until the end of the season.Humphrys, a striker, has joined from Fulham where he has made three first team appearances this season having impressed for the Under-23’s.
The 19 year old watched Town take on Oldham at the weekend and he’s pleased to finally get the deal done.
“I came to watch the game on Saturday and I was really impressed by the atmosphere, the fans were great, they obviously got the 1-0 win over Oldham and I thought they were the better team”, Stephen told ShrewsWeb.
“I’ve been here a few days training, I’ve been welcomed in and it just seems like a really nice club to be at. The stadiums really nice and I’ve been into the town centre the other day and seems like a really nice place to be.
“The standard here is really good, there’s some good players and hopefully the team will pull together and get three points on Saturday.”
Stephen has enjoyed a good season for Fulham’s Under-23’s scoring 12 times in 13 'Premier League 2' appearances and hopes to bring that form to Shrewsbury.
“I’ve scored a few goals which is always nice to do and that’s what I’ve always tried to do", said Humphrys.
“I base my game around scoring and creating goals, so hopefully I can bring that to Shrewsbury. I like the ball into feet, but I don’t mind going in behind either. I like facing people up, getting one on one and scoring and creating goals.”
"I’ve scored a few in training already. I know it’s a lot different in front of a crowd, but I’m confident in my own ability that if I get the chance I will put it away and that’s what I will try and do.”
Stephen is Town’s second loanee from Fulham after Jack Grimmer. Stephen admitted that he spoke to Jack about the move and hopes he can repay manager Paul Hurst for the faith he has shown in him.
“I spoke to Jack last week and asked him what it’s like and he convinced me that it’s a really good friendly club, a good standard to be playing at and reassured me that everything would be alright if I came here", said Stephen.
“The Gaffer's just said he wants me to come in and play my own game. He’s watched me a few times and he’s just said that he’s been impressed and as long as I work as hard as everyone else, if not harder, then I shouldn’t have a problem getting in the team and scoring goals.
“Fulham just want me to play my own game, hopefully get as many minutes as I can, get as many goals as I can and at the end of the season return to Fulham with goals under my belt and hopefully kick on from there.”
