Injury Update

Good news as Abu Ogogo returns to training

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Abu Ogogo has returned to training after two months out with a knee ligament injury.

The combative midfielder picked up the injury against Scunthorpe back in February, but recently returned to training with the rest of the squad.

Town Physio Chris Skitt caught up with ShrewsWeb for an update.

“Ab’s has done really well”, said Chris.

“He’s been working extremely hard in the gym and we’ve had the go ahead from the surgeon, in consultation with myself, to step him up.

“The recovery he’s had has been quite phenomenal really. He’s had no real aggravations or setbacks at all – touch wood – and it’s quite unusual for a medial ligament to act like that in terms of being so good and so resilient to the load.

“You normally get a little bit of a reaction along the way, but credit to Abs he’s had nothing and that’s seen him back into full training.”

“He’s satisfied everything that we need to do to see him return back to training and as long as he doesn’t have any setbacks in training he will be ready for when the gaffer sees fit to do so.”

There is further good news, with Joe Riley set to return to full training tomorrow after picking up an injury against Millwall.

“Joe had a little bit of a positional issue with his pelvis, which was winding a few soft tissue issues up”, continued Skitt.

“Joe’s recovered from that and we are looking to do our last screening session with ourselves today, with a view of him to the full squad tomorrow.

“Again that will be full training because he will have met our criteria and there’s just the last little bits of return to play issues that we need to address, but we don’t expect anything to come up from that.”

Meanwhile, Tyler Roberts has returned to his parent club, West Bromwich Albion, for treatment and Chris believes there is still an outside chance of him returning before the end of the season.

“Loan clubs tend to work differently depending on where they are from”, Chris said.

“West Brom are quite good in the way that they work with us. They are in constant contact and they like to keep their players with them.

“They’ve obviously got a massive amount of personnel there that they can manage Tyler with, but I’m in daily contact with the physio there and we’ve struck up a good working relationship with Tyler.

“It’s a matter of reviewing where he is each day and seeing where his progress is and making decisions based on how he’s improving.

“He’s settling really well, but there’s still a long way for Tyler to go to get him back outside. It wouldn’t be one that we’d write off completely, but he certainly would be up against it.”
