A look back on a busy first transfer window for Paul Hurst
It was a busy first transfer window for Paul Hurst as Town boss as eight players joined, whilst a further six went the other way.Three players had already left before January was even upon us with Moha Choulay returning to Stoke, Antoni Sarcevic leaving by mutual consent and Andy Mangan returning to former club Tranmere Rovers
When the window itself opened Paul wasted no time in making his first signing as Aristote Nsiala joined on a two and a half year deal from Hartlepool United.
This was followed just days later by the signings of Alex Rodman on an 18 month deal from Notts County and the dancing Freddie Ladapo who joined on loan from Crystal Palace.
With three new signings under their belt Town drew 1-1 at Swindon and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Bradford.
Meanwhile, out went Ivan Toney, George Waring and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who all returned to their parent clubs after loan spells, with youth team defender Callum Roberts heading out to Hednesford Town on a one month loan.
Kaiman Anderson and Callum Grogan returned from their loan spells to boost the numbers and they were quickly joined by Tyler Roberts, who joined on loan from West Bromwich Albion, and Bryn Morris who left Middlesbrough to sign a six month contract with Town.
Whilst, Jim O’Brien went in search of regular first team football and joined Ross County on loan until the end of the season.
Roberts and Morris made their debuts in the 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic and Hurst made his 7th signing of the window the week after as Stephen Humphrys joined on loan from Fulham as Town boosted their forward line.
Humphrys was a second half substitute against Gillingham last weekend, but Paul didn’t stop there and had a busy final two days of the window signing 25 year old Stefan Payne on loan from Barnsley and finally Ryan Yates late on Tuesday evening as Hurst looked to boost his options in midfield after Ian Black had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
Overall, it was a busy first window for Paul but his squad now appears to have the options he was hoping for come the 1st February.
