Focus now turns to first pre-season game at Wolves
Jayson Leutwiler has enjoyed being back at the Greenhous Meadow following the start of pre-season trailing. The players have been hard at work and he believes it will set the squad up for a solid start to the season.Saturday will see Town get their first competitive run out of pre-season when they take on Wolves in a behind closed doors practice game.
“Training is going very good, obviously we have a little bit of heavy legs but that is normal at this time of pre-season. The Wolves game is going to be like a pre-season game so it won’t be perfect and we know we will have to improve in different things. Wolves are a good opponent and it will show us where we are at the moment”, said Jayson.
“The first ten games will be very important for the club as it will show us where we are and what our targets should be but we want to get as high as we can and we will give everything to do that. It is a good league this year with massive clubs and it will be tough.”
Jayson Leutwiler was delighted to sign a new contract with Town following his return from holiday and the former Basel Goalkeeper feels the people of Shrewsbury were a key factor in him staying:
“I have said in previous interviews that it is very important for me to be happy away from football as well. That helps me put in my best performances and that has happened with me being at Shrewsbury. The town and the ground and the people I have met have made me very happy and that is a big reason as to why I am staying here”, he said.
“We had to wait until the end of the season for any contracts but as soon as we finished the negotiations happened and it went quick after that. It was not a hard decision, I did the right thing at the right time. It was quite obvious I was going to stay here as soon as we started the first talks. I was happy and it just took a few details and then we got it sorted.”
There has been plenty of new faces arriving at the club already this summer but the 27-year-old has been impressed with the new look Shrewsbury Town side.
“We are in every day and have lunch and train together so it doesn’t take long to get used to the new people here. It is quite quiet in the dressing room but I am sure it will get louder as everyone starts to know everyone. It is a good group and it important that we bring quality into the squad and have a good team spirit. The new guys are great and the gaffer has done a good job. The best thing is to improve the team and I think that is what he has done. “
