The gaffer gives his thoughts on the two loan signings
Micky Mellon is thrilled to have finally got two new signings over the line.George Waring and Mohamed El-Ouriachi Choulay both join on six month loan deals from Stoke City.
Both players will go into the squad for tomorrow night’s game with Charlton Athletic and the Gaffer is pleased to finally get the deals done.
“They’re two players that we've been trying to get for a couple of weeks now and we're just grateful that it's finally over the line,” Micky told the press.
“George has played league football before in England, been out on loan, 6 foot 5 striker. He will give us a real presence up there and he's very mobile and a lad that's determined to come here and do very well. Highly rated at Stoke, so we're really pleased to get him here.
“Moha's a young ex-Barcelona player. If you YouTube him you will see how excited we are to have him here, with the talent he has. Stoke again value him very highly and we're delighted we've been able to get the two of them on loan now.
“It's two different additions to the group and will give us two different options for the squad.”
Mohamed El-Ouriachi Choulay, known as Moha, started his career with Barcelona and Micky is expecting him to add some pace to the Town squad.
“He's a real talent, he's an old fashioned winger who likes to dribble and he's very technical as you would expect. It's his first loan out of Stoke, but he's certainly a lad with some incredible breathtaking talent,” said Micky.
“We just need to get that talent out of him now into a structure on the field, about where and when we want him to go and execute that talent if you like. But, if we get him going the way that I believe that we can, then we will have an exceptional talent here.”
Micky is pleased with the new addition and believes they will offer options to his already strong squad.
“I just felt that in wide areas we only really had Shaun Whalley and Jim O'Brien when we played those kind of formations, to do that shift for us, which is a lot of leg work and a big ask with the amount of games that we play,” Micky said.
“So I just felt that we needed one more that could go out there and do a little bit for us out there.
“When we looked around, and we have been looking around for some time now, we wanted something that would be exciting. A real talent that fans would want to see, an old fashioned sort of winger, that will run and take people on and real pace, so Moha fitted the bill for us.”
Waring started his career with Everton before joining Stoke as a 19 year old. He has had loan spells with Oxford United and Barnsley in recent years and Micky is hoping he will be another good addition.
“With George he's a mobile, aggressive, target man, from a Premier League club, who's been out on loan and done very well at Barnsley. So, again I'm really pleased to get him in and I'm absolutely certain he'll be a great addition to the group,” admitted Micky.
“I've not just brought him because he's big. We've brought him because he will get hold of the football, when we play it into him. He'll be a threat when we put the ball in the box and he'll make it difficult for teams playing against us with the qualities that he has.”
With 25 players now at the Gaffers disposal, Micky admitted that he wasn’t expecting anymore signings before the window closed.
“That will be more or less us now,” Micky expressed.
“We're delighted with the squad, with the flexibility in the group now to play different formations when we need to either during games or game to game, which I think is important.
“We have strong characters, who know the division very well and we have huge ambition in the group to either move Shrewsbury forward, or to move forward themselves with their careers, so it's a good mix to have.
“They're very young, very hungry, we know the strength of the group and they know that they've got to play well in order to try and stay in the team.
“And every one of them knows that they're part of what we want to do here and they have a part in order to keep moving us forwards,” he added.
