Defender looking to get back to winning ways
Defender Olly Lancashire is hoping Town can put Saturday’s defeat at Sheffield United behind them when they travel to Fleetwood tonight.Town performed admirably in the Steel City after being reduced to nine men in the first half thanks to red cards for Jim O’Brien and Abu Ogogo.
However, O’Brien will be available after his card was rescinded on Monday and Lancashire believes tonight’s game can’t come quick enough.
“After a defeat you always want a game to come quick enough and it’s a game where we are really looking to go and get a good result,” Olly told the Press.
“Since the Gaffer has come in everyone has got a fresh start, so everyone has got a little spring in their step and obviously the first four games, going unbeaten with three wins, definitely helps and we will be looking at getting back to winning ways tomorrow.”
Paul Hurst’s arrival has coincided with an upturn in form and Lancashire has been impressed by the former Grimsby boss.
“I think he’s come in and been a breath of fresh air,” Lancashire said.
“He’s got good ideas that the lads are buying into and that’s what you want as a player. He does talk to us individually, but at the minute it’s all about getting everyone together and working together as a squad and as a team.
“It’s pretty hard in training, but that’s what we expect as professional footballers. When we don’t have a game we all want to train hard and you definitely feel the benefits on a Saturday.”
Fleetwood currently sit 10th in League One after a good start to the season, but Olly believes Tuesday night’s game provides the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.
“These are the sort of games that we need to start picking up points,” continued Olly.
“They have been up and down this year, they’ve had some good results but they’ve had some bad ones as well, so hopefully we can go there and perform to our best and see what happens.
“I think we play them three times in the next 6 weeks or something like that. It’s obviously a dress rehearsal for the FA Cup, but the league is where we want to start picking up points for tomorrow is the big one.”
Lancashire has fond memories of facing the Fylde Coast side from his Rochdale days and admits to being impressed by the way Fleetwood have risen from non-league over the last few years.
“When I was at Rochdale we got promoted with Fleetwood, so we had a few battles there,” said the former Southampton academy graduate.
“It’s obviously a smaller ground to the likes of Bramall Lane, but it’s still the same size football pitch and we’ve got to go there and do a job.
“You have to take your hat off to the Chairman and the people behind the scenes there for what they’ve done over the last 10 or so years.
“Even though they’ve got quite a small ground they still have a pretty big budget for the size of the club. They are by no means a small club, they’ve got good players and they’ve shown that in the last couple of years.”
