Gaffer talks about the signing of 20 year old midfielder
Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has spoken of his delight after completing his fifth signing of the transfer window, by bringing in Bryn Morris.20 year old Morris has joined Town on a permanent deal until the end of the season from Premier League side Middlesbrough.
Paul was pleased to be able to add Bryn to the group and believes he will add a different option in central midfield.
“It gives us some competition in the middle of the pitch, which I think we’ve been lacking as a squad and we’ve managed to secure him on a permanent deal”, Paul told the ShrewsWeb.
“I like that he’s been willing to do that and he will be keen and hungry to prove himself, and then either earn a longer deal with ourselves or do really well and get other people interested.
“I spoke about wanting to get people in who appreciate the opportunity and to be fair to Bryn, as soon as he knew we were interested he was very keen to push this forward.”
Bryn played against Town earlier this season and Paul was impressed with what he had seen.
“He’s one that’s been mentioned when we were in our previous job”, said Paul.
“He played against us in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier this season and on the night I was a bit occupied watching us, but I watched it back and he certainly did a lot better than he might have thought on the night.
“If you look at his pedigree he is clearly a talented boy, but it hasn’t quite happened for him at Middlesbrough, which is no disgrace considering the competition he would have faced, and the loan spells that he’s had haven’t quite worked out for him.
“Now he’s in a position where this period could have a major influence on how high he could play and the offers that come along in the summer.”
With Antoni Sarcevic and Jim O’Brien having left the club in recent weeks Town are short in the centre of the pitch and Paul believes Bryn will add some competition to the squad.
“When people get to see him they will see that he is extremely comfortable on the ball”, Morris said.
“He maybe gives us something a little bit different in that area as well and I’m looking forward to getting him involved with us and seeing what he can contribute moving forward.
“You need a squad first and foremost. The current lads have done well, but no one is an automatic choice here, that’s not how I like to manage. I want to keep people on their toes and make them earn the right week in week out.
“The last thing that I want to do is fall by the wayside because we haven’t got enough numbers and we haven’t got enough strength in depth in certain areas. By the end of January I want to have options available to me in every position and Bryn offers that.
“I don’t think for one minute that he’s left Middlesbrough with the intention of sitting on the bench so let the competition begin and if that pushes the current lads onto better performances then that can only be good for the football club.”
