Gaffer lookng to get back to winning ways against Wimbledon
Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst admitted that it was time to bounce back after Town’s six match unbeaten run was ended by Peterborough in midweek.Town looked set to keep their good run going when they led 1-0 at half time, but a second half sending off for Stephen Humphrys turned the game on its head.
AFC Wimbledon are the visitors to the Greenhous Meadow this weekend and Paul is looking to get back to winning ways.
“The saying is that you fall off and you get back on, so that’s what we need to do and what we will be trying to do”, Paul told the Press.
“Some teams lose more than others and the idea is to put a team and a squad together to make those losses happen on a less regular basis and when you are onto that next game you want to take something from it.
“This weekend a lot of teams around us are playing each other, so there will be a lot of movement in the table, but ultimately we’ve got to look after ourselves and get a win here and if we do then people will be feeling good about themselves again.”
Wimbledon have enjoyed a decent first season in League One, currently sitting in 14th place, and Paul believes they will provide tough opposition on Saturday.
“It’s a difficult test”, Hurst said.
“I’ve watched their last couple of games and in the last game against Coventry there was quite a bit of direct play.
“They’ve got good enough players to hurt you, certainly in the forward areas, but there’s no doubt for me that when you do play against Wimbledon you’ve got to be prepared to compete.
“There’s lots of direct balls, first phase, second phase and if you’re going to be successful you have to win quite a few of those challenges.”
After two away games Paul is looking forward to returning to the Greenhous Meadow where Town have lost just once since Hurst joined the club.
“Something that was mentioned when I came in was that the home form wasn’t good at all", said Paul.
“We don’t really look to do something special at home and something else away, it’s very much just about having a positive mind-set at home or away, but results have been good here.
“It’s not for any particular reason, other than what we ask of the team anyway and that is to try and play positively, work hard, be on the front foot and when we are at home get the crowd behind us and spur everyone on.”
