Alex Rodman joins Town on an 18 month deal

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce the signing of Alex Rodman on an 18 month deal.

The 29-year-old winger signs on a free from League Two Notts County.

He spoke to ShrewsWeb upon arriving at the Greenhous Meadow: “It was an easy decision to come here.

“Obviously the step up is a big factor and working with Paul [Hurst] and [Chris] Doigy again was something that was too good to turn down.

“I worked with Paul at Grimsby, and played with Doigy at Aldershot and York. I have good relationships with both of them and I understand what they both want from their players.”

Rodman played his youth football at Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers he started playing men’s football at non-league Leamington in 2005.

From there he went on to play for a number of non-league outlets and League Two Aldershot before signing for Grimsby Town where he linked up with Town’s current gaffer, and even won Grimsby’s Goal of the Season award in 2014 with a stunning volley.

“Paul got the best out of me in my last six months at Grimsby and hopefully that can continue here.

“I had a good time and we enjoyed some success at Grimsby and I played some good football under him which can hopefully continue here.”

Rodman had a move to Scottish club Hibernian lined up upon leaving Grimsby, but after that fell through he signed for Gateshead instead.

Rodman enjoyed his spell up north, scoring 11 goals in 44 appearances in the 2014/15 season, and earned himself a transfer to League Two Newport County.

After one season at Newport Rodman rejected the offer of a new contract and signed for Notts County last summer.

“I’ve done the rounds in the lower leagues and I’m happy to say I’m in League One now with Shrewsbury.

“It’s my first experience of League One football and don’t think it will be too different from League Two. There might be a bit more football played and a bit more athleticism in some of the teams.

“I guess some of the big clubs – the likes of Sheffield United and Bolton will be very strong but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Rodman has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Notts County this season, scoring one goal.

“I’m a winger, but I’ve played a number of different roles across the front line during my career, but I’m most comfortable on the wing.

“I’m quite pacey and I’m good running with the ball and beating people. I’ll look to get crosses in the box and hopefully chip in with a few goals.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the squad’s like and I’ve seen some of the results recently, since Paul and Doigy have come in, and I know we can push on and get away from the relegation zone as quickly as possible.

“I’ll give 110% every game, I’m committed, hardworking and hopefully I can score a few goals.”
