Ryan Yates on Loan Move

Loanee looking forward to the challenge ahead

Shrewsbury Town’s final signing of the January transfer window, Ryan Yates, is delighted to be at the club after making his deadline day move.

Yates joins on loan from Nottingham Forest and enjoyed a good loan spell with Barrow in the National League earlier this season.

Yates is now looking forward to a new challenge at a higher level.

“I’m buzzing and I can’t wait to start”, Ryan told ShrewsWeb.

“The club looks really nice, modern, and the boys have been really welcoming so I’m looking forward to getting out on the pitch.

“It was so late on Tuesday. I had just played a game and I got the call and I couldn’t wait to go out and get going.

“Barrow was a good challenge and it got me used to men’s football, but League One is a totally different ball game and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“Men’s football is so different to academy football. It’s all about winning the ball in the air, winning those second balls, so hopefully my spell at Barrow stands me in good stead ready for the League One challenge.”

Ryan is yet to make his debut for Forest but he has been encouraged to come out and express himself on the League One stage.

“I’d like to get minutes and keep developing as a footballer because I’m only young and it’s going to be a good learning curve for me”, said Yates.

“Forest told me to go out and express myself, play my own game and see where it takes me. The manager here said the same, to go out there, be myself, express myself and just keep developing.

“I’d say I’m a box to box midfielder. My strengths are getting around the pitch, breaking play up, keeping it simple and playing to my strengths.

“Hopefully the odd goal as well, usually late in the game, because I’m quite a fit player, so once they’ve tired out a bit I can arrive late into the box.

“Football is all about winning games, so hopefully, if I can play, I will help the team get the three points.”
