Skipper talks after the draw with The Posh
Adam El-Abd was content after Shrewsbury Town picked up a point at home to Peterborough United.Town have now drawn their last two games and the defender believes that a win on Saturday will make it a good unbeaten streak.
He said: “It is another point on the board and that makes it two unbeaten. We are a little disappointed because it was a good chance to get all three points but we were very close.”
“I thought the performance bar one or two incidences was very good and if we can go into Saturday and build on that then we can build on what we are doing here. We played some good stuff at times and if we can continue that and believe then we will roll on to Saturday and hopefully get the three points. Then you can look at the last three games and say it is five points from three games. It is still a new team and there were lots of signings in the summer so we are still building and confidence is still growing.”
El-Abd was frustrated at conceding from yet another free kick and felt aggrieved by the decision not to award Shrewsbury a free kick in the build up to Gwion Edwards’ opener:
He said: “We are disappointed to concede from another free kick. On Saturday there was a block but on our part it was avoidable.
“Today one of their boys has pushed us but it hasn’t been seen. But then again if it was the other way around and we were aggressive you run the risk of giving away a penalty. So it is difficult with the new rules. Referees are looking for pushing off the ball and it is difficult. We need to get better there and we know we will do.”
Ian Black missed a penalty to win the game at the Greenhous Meadow after goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler kept the side in it with some great saves but the defender feels Black deserves praise instead of any blame:
He said: “No one can blame him because he scored the equalizer and he has been our best player recently.”
“Jayson kept us in it. He made a game changing save. Fair play to him he has been outstanding in the last couple of games. That was the turning point because we went up the other end and scored. Then within a minute we had a penalty and they had ten men and we were thinking things were fantastic. But it wasn’t to be. Fair play Ian Black came forward and took the penalty but that is football. He had the bravery to come forward and take it and he has been different class for us recently.
