“It’s an experience and opportunity which young people get to develop and grow in life and give back to their local communities.

“They have gained skills they wouldn’t at school and it helps to build them as individuals. Working to the NCS ethos puts their learning into context and aids this.”
Haylie Norton, Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s NCS coordinator, said:

"It was a bit scary (my first driving experience) but really good.

"It's been fun to try things that I would definitely never have thought of doing.

"On the NCS programme, you get to meet new people and it's something you can take with you wherever you go."
Katelyn Frost, participant on Shrewsbury Town in the Community's NCS programme, said:

NCS is an experience for 15-17 year olds to embark on exhilarating challenges, make their mark and build skills for work and life and give back to the community.

As part of the phase two event, they spent time at Walford and North Shropshire College's Baschurch campus learning the basic principles of driving, including moving around in the car, and taking part in a range of workshops which can be relevant to their future development and career.

As part of phase, the group of 60 aged 15-17 headed to Swindon for a week for challenging outdoor activities such as rock climbing, raft building and the giant swing.

Young people on Shrewsbury Town in the Community's National Citizen Service (NCS) programme have enjoyed two phases of fun-filled activities in the last few weeks.
